THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
November 9, 1987
Warmest greetings and congratulations to everyone gathered to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the U.S . Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Christmas Program.
A philosopher once wrote, “in charity there is no excess.” That’s what Bill and Diane Hendricks, with their lifelong spirit of neighbor helping neighbor, believed 40 Christmases ago when they thought up Toys for Tots — and that’s what they, along with the Marine Corps Reserve and their many friends and helpers, have believed and practiced ever since. You’ve brightened Christmas for countless youngsters with your toys and with all the love and concern behind them. You’ve lived out the Christmas spirit of giving and the Marine creed of “Semper Fidelis — Ever Faithful,”; and those are truly precious gifts for our entire Nation.
Nancy joins me in sending heartfelt appreciation and very best wishes for a memorable celebration and for many more anniversaries. God bless you
