It’s a summer full of fun and smiles for children in Alexandria, Virginia, thanks to a distribution hosted by local churches! More than 300 dedicated volunteers from Good360, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Lazera Ministries worked together to distribute toys, books, and games – provided by Toys for Tots – to disadvantaged children in the surrounding area.
The second annual Stock the Bock was a drive-through event that distributed toys, books, and other gifts – provided by Toys for Tots – to 4,500 local children in need.
One attendee shared, “It’s my first time coming to this event, so I’m lucky that my kids have some stuff that they can use. I came to see what I could get for them. I’m really happy. They have nice toys, diapers, wipes, and toiletries.”
Stock the Block is more than just a distribution event; it embodies community solidarity. As this event continues to grow, it inspires, uplifts, and showcases the extraordinary results that can be achieved when a community unites for a common cause.
For one law enforcement officer in attendance, Stock the Block provided a crucial opportunity to gather toys and supplies for families residing in safe houses after escaping domestic violence.
“When people are in the midst of poverty and in the midst of being marginalized, their children are experiencing that,” said Yolonda Earl-Thompson, executive director for Lazera Ministries. “We just want to bring a little joy in a little moment so that the kid can be a kid.”
